ERP Rollout for an ACT Government Contractor

Replaced a patchwork of spreadsheets and a legacy accounting package with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central — tied to AusTender contract IDs, Essential Eight ML2 controls, and zero data loss on migration.

  • Fixed-price quotes. No hourly billing surprises.
  • Zero data loss. Across 500+ migrations.
  • Unlimited local support. Australian team, no offshore.
  • Technology-agnostic. Best fit, not highest margin.

Challenge

The organisation managed 40+ active Commonwealth contracts across three federal portfolios. Monthly reporting took five business days of senior staff time, pulled together from spreadsheets, email threads, and a desktop accounting tool. Contract variations were tracked in free text in a shared drive and occasionally missed in billing runs. An upcoming PSPF review made the gap in documented Essential Eight controls a board-level concern.

Solution

We ran a two-week discovery covering finance, contract management, and security controls. Business Central was deployed into the existing Azure Australia Central tenant, configured with a contract register tied to AusTender IDs, milestone billing linked to project WBS, and SharePoint-backed document trails. Essential Eight ML2 controls — application control via MDE, PIM-based admin privileges, macro hardening, MFA on every account, daily offsite backups with quarterly restore tests — were configured and documented alongside the ERP rollout. Data migration from the legacy accounting package used a triple-backup, dual-validation methodology with zero records lost.
